Job Description:
To supervise and direct the unionized maintenance work force of the Finishing area as they support mechanical maintenance and repair activities on all the Finishing Operations area.
Administer the U.S. Steel safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the operating facility.
Apply engineering principles and problem solving techniques to evaluate and resolve mechanical conditions to maximize operating efficiencies.
Troubleshooting, identifying causes and implementing solutions to malfunctions related to the EGL, CGL, Temper Mill, Anneal and Shipping,mechanical functions.
Tracking and solving product quality related problems related to improperly functioning equipment
Recommending major maintenance and capital projects for an assigned area
Performing facility delay analyses
Developing and implementing equipment enhancements to improve facility operations
Establishing and maintaining Great Lakes Works standard equipment specifications
Reviewing and recommending diagnostic equipment to perform improved maintenance
Developing long-range facility improvement plans
Supporting the development of spare parts requirements and update spares database
Supplying technology support for emergency, complex and/or normal troubleshooting of mechanical systems
Assisting in the creation and development of state-ofthe-art training programs for Mechanical Technicians and planning groups
Utilize management skills to supervise, direct, and coordinate the efforts of experienced technicians, craftsmen and project planners to repair and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment to keep the operations running at maximum efficiency with minimal interruption. Use technical knowledge and maintenance history of mechanical and electrical equipment to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs.
Performing administrative activities such as scheduling crews, completing production reports, conducting safety conversations, and compiling other reporting as necessary by the operating facility.
Requirements:
Associates in Mechanical Engineering/Technology or equivalent required. Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or Technology preferred.
Minimum 3 years combined experience as a maintenance supervisor working in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
Good communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills are critical.
Prior experience in a union environment or similar military leadership experience is a plus
